| What a great, insightful book.
I just read Positive Discipline for Teenagers. What a great,
insightful book. I am working on being a kind and firm parent. I
truly believe that the theories set out in this book are good and
appropriate for teenagers after having gone down the road of
lectures, punishing, etc. I enjoyed your book and am now enjoying
your website. I truly believe that your book has helped me
tremendously. I am feeling better about parenting my teen already
even though it is only the beginning. I have removed myself from the
lecturing, punishing parent I used to be and have realized that I
must give up my control issues, and by doing that, I feel less
stressed and more in control of my life. A lot of parents with teens
could certainly benefit from implementing your ideas.

Empowering
Teens (CD)
by Jane Nelsen
Dr. Jane Nelsen is the co-author of the popular book, "Positive Discipline
for Teenagers." In this lecture, Jane share principles to help parents
understand how to use non-punitive (kind and firm at the same time)
discipline tools to avoid power struggles and motivate teenagers. Teens
want to pilot their own planes. Parents want to pilot their teen's plane.
What is the solution to keep teens from kicking out of the cockpit?
Learn:
Why punishment is never appropriate, unless you want to create rebellion
and power struggles.
Effective (kind and firm at the same time) discipline tools to help teens
develop the Significant Seven Perceptions and Skills they need to develop
to be successful in life.
How to let go (small steps at a time) without abandoning.
How to motivate a teen.
How to be a closet listener, so you teen will talk with you.
To see the teen years as a "cute and adorable stage" instead of who they
will be forever.
How to use "curiosity questions" to help your teen set goals and create
plans to accomplish those goals.
Steps to effective follow-through, four traps that defeat follow-through,
and four hints for effective follow-through.
How to focus on solutions.

The Positive Discipline
for Teenagers Workshop 6 CD Set.
With Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott
We
heard from so many people who found the original cassettes life changing
that we felt it was important to preserve this classic information on CDs.
We hope you agree. Now digitally enhanced and re-master for improved sound
quality the audio workshop is better than ever.
You'll hear reference to a book called I'm On Your Side. That was the
original title for Positive Discipline for Teenagers book, which is into
its 7th printing in 2007. To gain maximum benefit from these CD's we
recommend that you read Positive Discipline for Teenagers to
reinforce what you hear—and to gain much more than could be included
during the workshop.
You'll also hear the announcer, John Dupree, refer to experimental
activities. Though the activities may be experimental to those who've
never tried them before, they are really experiential. There's a big
difference. In our workshops we create learning situations where
participants can learn from the inside out—from their feelings, and their
inner wisdom, and not just from their heads. We wish you could participate
experientially in the activities, too, rather than just listening to them.
You may want to gather a group of people together, listen to the CDs, and
stop to participate together in the activities as they are presented.
This CD series was originally produced as cassette tapes, so don't be
surprised if you hear references to tapes. The technology may have change
but parents of teens are still facing many of the same issues. So enjoy.
The Positive Discipline for Teenagers Workbook is included FREE
with your order.

What a GREAT! workshop. We felt your workshop on
Positive Discipline/Empowering Teens and Yourself in the Process was
of great value. We continuously refer to your presentation. Parents
tell me they are putting into practice the things they learned from
you, and it is working!
I’ve run community education programs for over eight years and I
must say this is the first one that actually gives people the skills
and techniques to make changes. Your straightforward and
common-sense approach is enlightening in dealing with children of
all ages and family relationships.”

I own a copy of your book, Positive Discipline for Teenagers, which
I keep as my teenage bible. It has been a true blessing for me to
have, in so many ways.

| The very best book I have ever
found on discipline "As a psychotherapist
and school social worker, I have frequently referred parents to
Positive Discipline for Teenagers by describing it as the very best
book I have ever found on discipline. Parents of teenagers are often
struggling to figure out their parental role as their children gain
more independence, test and push limits and boundaries and try on a
variety of roles themselves. Dr. Nelsen provides sound practical
strategies that are presented in a clear, encouraging and supportive
fashion. Sharing several stories of her own family, as well as her
wealth or professional experience, she brings intelligence,
empowerment, respect and humor to the topic of parenting teens in a
genuine way that parents will be able to connect with."
